At the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health (UIC SPH), we offer outstanding courses and research opportunities in all areas of public health. Students benefit from a diverse, accomplished faculty while learning and working in one of the most vibrant cities in the world.
We in the leadership of the UIC School of Public Health are saddened and outraged by the Federal Government’s move today to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting young “Dreamers”, including some of our own valued students, at risk of deportation. DACA has provided 800,000 young people with the opportunity to receive an education, obtain gainful employment and contribute fully to the country they call home. We wish to join Chancellor Amiridis, President Killeen, and other University leaders in stating our full commitment to support our undocumented students with all the resources at our disposal, including counseling and legal services. Please monitor http://dream.uic.edu/ for updates on resources available to affected students and their allies at UIC. As it is important in a democracy that all voices are heard, all are encouraged to write to elected representatives to express your views on this issue of importance to all in our community.
